Volunteer Opportunities

Joining an Open Project

What's an Open Project?

Open projects are collaborative, publicly accessible initiatives that invite anyone, regardless of background or affiliation, to contribute their skills, ideas, and feedback. Participants can help shape the direction of the project by suggesting improvements, fixing issues, adding new features, or enhancing existing content. This open model encourages innovation, diverse perspectives, and continuous improvement through shared ownership and active community engagement.

What does it mean to join?

Joining an Open Project is a low-stakes way to contribute your skills to a social benefit cause. Unlike joining a Future Force startup, it's not a long-term commitment, and you can drop in, make the contribution you wanted to make, and come and go as you wish.

Once you apply and are accepted to join, you will receive a confirmation email with a welcome note, an invitation to the centralized communication system of that project (like Discord or Slack), the contact information of the project contact, and the contact will reach out to you.

Interning with Future Force

What does it mean to Intern with Future Force?

  • Joining the UW Team to work on Future Force website, operations design, and more.

  • Committing to an Open Project as a student

  • Connecting you with Future Force Partners

All internships are volunteer positions, and are therefore unpaid. As volunteer positions, they are flexible, meaning you choose what you take on and how much time you can spend on it, and you will get out of it what you put in. It's a great opportunity to work on a meaningful project with some amazing people of all industry levels and backgrounds, so we recommend being ready to spend between 5-10 hours on your internship per week.
